-
Make a list of all the things that you need to bring for
each person: clothing, toys, toiletries.
-
Make sure you have a passport for everyone, including the
children!
-
Make sure to get a visa ahead of time for any of your
destinations that requires you to do so.
-
Don't pick a very busy and popular place for your
vacation during the March break when you have little ones
(under 6). They get too tired too fast. Depending on the
age, they will still need naps, and there isn't always a
place to have them nap that they will be comfortable in,
especially if it's hot outside.
-
Bring snacks and beverages in a backpack so you don't
have to buy too much at the airport.
-
Make sure you know the NEW rules for flying now with
regards to the size of liquids in containers - no gels or
lotions to exceed 100 ml in size and they must be in a
resealable bag.
-
Dress comfortably for the trip!
-
Bring a light jacket and pants, even if you are traveling
to a hot climate. It can get cool in the evenings.
-
Bring one empty bag to put all the souvenirs in to bring
home with you.
-
Bring some sort of bag to put dirty clothes in. You don't
want the dirty clothes mixed up with the clean clothes.
Also, bring extra resealable bags in case yours rip or
you need to put wet clothing in them.
-
Make sure to confirm with your airline, hotel, and/or car
rental place before you leave. Make sure that you have
your itinerary and confirmation numbers with you.
-
Have a list of passport numbers, visa numbers, and family
and friend contact numbers, and put it in your carry on
bag.
-
Clean out your wallet and purse. Don't take any
non-essentials that just weigh you down.
-
Leave your itinerary and contact numbers with someone at
home.
-
Put ID tags on the outside of each and every bag as well
as inside each and every bag.
-
Make sure that you have enough of all your prescriptions
that you need as well as kids and adult medicines.
Include Pepto Bismol, Imodium, Gravel, Motrin/Tylenol for
headaches, etc. This might just come in handy. Kids
sometimes get sick when you least expect it, and you
can't always buy these types of things at every
destination.
-
Buy some currency of the country you're visiting.
Include coins and request small denominations.
-
Keep your valuables in your carry on and keep your
passport, credit cards and money in a money belt, not
your purse.
-
Bring your camera, film or memory card, batteries and
adapter plugs.
-
Ask your optometrist for a copy of your eyeglass
prescription.
-
Carry on bags: travel documents, passport, prescription
medicines, camera, kids' medicines, money, itinerary and
contact information, light jacket, magazine, toys,
beverages and snacks for everyone.
-
You might want to give your kids Gravol 30 minutes before
boarding the plane so they won't feel sick; as well as it
may calm them down or let them sleep a little so they can
be well rested when you arrive at your destination.
-
Bring little gifts or surprises for the kids to bring out
when they are bored or restless.
-
Bring your portable DVD player and movies for the kids to
watch in case the movie on the plane isn't suitable for
their age.
-
Make sure you get any needles that are required for your
destination before going on your trip. Talk with your
doctor as soon as possible about this.
